Frankfort Light, Navigational lighthouse at Lake Michigan harbor in Frankfort, Michigan, US.
Frankfort Light is a steel lighthouse at the harbor in Frankfort, Michigan, standing at the end of the north breakwater. The tower reaches 20 meters in height and is equipped with a fourth order Fresnel lens that guides vessels on Lake Michigan.
The first lighthouse at this location was built by the federal government in 1873 from timber. The current steel structure was erected in 1912 to replace the original wooden tower that had deteriorated over years of service.
The lighthouse serves as a local landmark where residents and visitors gather to enjoy views across the lake and watch the sunset. This steel structure at the breakwater is woven into the town's daily life and draws people particularly during evening hours.
The lighthouse is accessible by walking along the north breakwater from the harbor area, with public parking located near Main Street. The approach offers good views of the structure and the surrounding lake waters.
The lighthouse was relocated in 1932 from its original position and moved to the head of the breakwater, with a two-story addition constructed. This move was an unusual solution at the time to reposition the structure for better maritime navigation support.
