Hare Forest Farm

Hare Forest Farm is a main house built as a two-story brick center section with four window bays, surrounded by outbuildings including a stone garage, wooden smokehouse, barn, and tenant dwellings. The entire complex sits on approximately 62 acres of land arranged around this central residence.

This house was built between 1833 and 1840 for John S. Terrill and displays Federal style elements including brickwork laid in Flemish-bond pattern. The land was previously owned by William Strother, the maternal grandfather of President Zachary Taylor.

The house displays Federal architecture with craftsmanship details that residents of the area in the early 19th century valued and lived with daily. This building style reflects the local preferences and skills that were common in Virginia at that time.
