Capitoline Wolf Statue, Cincinnati, Bronze sculpture in Eden Park, Cincinnati, United States
The Capitoline Wolf Statue in Cincinnati is a bronze sculpture depicting the she-wolf nursing the twins Romulus and Remus on a granite and marble base. The artwork sits in Twin Lakes within Eden Park and offers views across the Ohio River Valley.
Rome presented this statue to Cincinnati in 1931, when the city already owned a smaller version that had arrived in 1929 for a Sons of Italy gathering. The gift marked a formal recognition of the historical connection between the city and Roman heritage.
The sculpture displays the Roman founding legend of the she-wolf with the twins and creates a bridge between Cincinnati's name and ancient Roman history. Visitors can experience this cultural connection between the American city and Rome directly at the site.
The monument stands in Eden Park near the Krohn Conservatory and is easily accessed on foot. The location works best during pleasant weather when you can also explore the park's surroundings.
After the original wolf was stolen in 2022, Italian craftsmen created a replacement using the same mold and incorporating material from the original paws. This restoration by the original country of origin shows the monument's lasting importance to both cities.
