Christiana Light, Historic lighthouse at Christina River entrance, Delaware.
The lighthouse structure consisted of a two-story residence with a tower mounted on the roof containing a fourth-order Fresnel lens system.
Commissioned by Congress in 1834 with a $6,000 budget, the Christiana Light began guiding vessels through Wilmington's harbor entrance in 1835.
The lighthouse represented maritime development in Delaware, marking the critical junction between Christina River and Delaware River for commercial navigation.
The lighthouse experimented with rosin gas production on site in 1844, demonstrating early attempts at alternative fuel sources for maritime navigation.
Anthony Christy served as keeper until his death in 1862 at 105 years old, making him the oldest lighthouse keeper in United States history.
