Wilmington Park, Baseball stadium in Wilmington, United States.
Wilmington Park was a baseball stadium with seating for about 7000 spectators, featuring wooden bleachers and concrete grandstands positioned along the baselines and behind home plate. The field dimensions measured 334 feet (102 m) to left field and 360 feet (110 m) to right field.
The stadium began as a baseball facility and served the Philadelphia Athletics for spring training sessions during World War II after Major League Baseball required clubs to prepare north of the Potomac. Later, the University of Delaware football team used this venue as their home field for twelve seasons before relocating to a new facility.
The University of Delaware football team called Wilmington Park their home field for twelve seasons between 1940 and 1952 before moving to Delaware Stadium.
The facility was located at the intersection of 30th Street and Governor Printz Boulevard in central Wilmington, making it easy to find and reach. Keep in mind that this stadium no longer operates and now exists only as a historical site.
The local baseball team achieved remarkable attendance figures and drew over 170000 visitors during one season in the 1940s. These numbers reflected strong community support for the team during its most successful period.
