Font Hill Manor, Georgian architectural estate in Ellicott City, United States.
Font Hill Manor is a Georgian residence in Ellicott City constructed from local granite with a central four-bay section flanked by two wings that were added during different building periods. The structure displays the formal layout characteristic of this architectural style, with its separate sections forming a cohesive composition.
The house was built in the 1700s by Admiral Hammond on land that had previously belonged to Charles Carroll of Carrollton, a prominent Maryland landowner. The property then operated as a working estate before eventually transforming into a private residence within a modern neighborhood.
The property spans several acres and sits within a residential neighborhood, making it accessible via local streets for those driving or walking through the area. Visitors can appreciate the exterior architecture and grounds, particularly when approaching from the neighborhood streets.
The estate briefly carried the name Abbottston during the mid-20th century after being purchased and substantially restored by Isaac Cate. This restoration effort helped preserve the original structure and prevented it from falling into disrepair.
