Indiana Theatre, Movie theater and event venue in Terre Haute, United States.
The Indiana Theatre is a movie theater and event venue in Terre Haute with a 1,537-seat auditorium decorated with detailed plasterwork and soft-colored walls. Its large projection screen and modern digital systems now serve films, concerts, and various social gatherings throughout the year.
John Eberson designed this theater in 1922, incorporating architectural approaches that later influenced theater design across the United States. His work at this venue helped establish new standards for how movie palaces could be imagined and built.
Major performers including Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball, and Red Skelton graced this stage throughout its long history. The venue continues to serve as a gathering place where audiences experience both film and live entertainment together.
Check with the venue about current programming since events and films change regularly throughout the year. The seating is arranged to provide good views from most positions within the auditorium.
The original construction required 1,665,000 bricks to complete, reflecting the massive solid structure that still stands today. The entrance was originally crowned with a stunning lighting display made of 3,000 bulbs arranged to form an enormous peacock.
