Crabtree Jones House

The Crabtree Jones House is a Federal-style residence in Raleigh featuring symmetrical design and classical proportions. The structure displays multiple chimneys and refined architectural details typical of early 1800s building practices.

The house was built between 1808 and 1811 by Nathaniel Jones as a plantation home. It survived occupation by Union troops during the Civil War and remained in family ownership for 150 years.

The home served travelers who needed shelter during their journeys through the region. This place was known for hosting visitors from different walks of life.

The building was relocated in 2014 to prevent demolition and protect its historic status. When visiting, note that the property sits in a residential area and is protected as a listed landmark.

The house is one of the few remaining large plantation homes in Wake County and was built on elevated ground to prevent flood damage. This design choice shows early builders' practical understanding of local environmental conditions.
