The Lawn, Historic estate in Nokesville, United States.
The Lawn is a historic estate in Prince William County featuring a main house in Tudor Revival style with stuccoed walls, half-timber framing, and a complex cross gable roof. The roughly 29-acre grounds include a schoolhouse, barn, smokehouse, stone dairy, cottage, and other outbuildings that served the working farm.
The main house was built in 1926 to replace a Gothic Revival structure that burned in 1921. The original brick kitchen wing from the 1850s survived the fire and was incorporated into the new house design.
The name refers to the broad open grasslands that define the property and reflect how wealthy rural estates were typically landscaped. Visitors can see how the land served both agricultural and domestic purposes, maintaining the working character of a country residence.
The estate is situated in a rural setting and is easily reached by car, allowing visitors to explore multiple buildings and grounds at their own pace. Plan to walk among the various structures and open spaces to fully appreciate the property layout and functions.
The original brick kitchen wing bridges two different architectural periods, connecting the 1850s structure with the 1926 Tudor Revival design. This surviving element tells the story of how the property was rebuilt after a major fire.
