Nokesville Truss Bridge, Historic road bridge in Prince William County, United States
The Nokesville Truss Bridge crosses the Norfolk Southern Railway tracks near Nokesville using a single-span Pratt design. It was built from wrought iron and measures 73 feet in length, carrying a local road over the rails.
The Keystone Bridge Company built this structure in 1882 as the rail network expanded through Virginia. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, recognizing its historical value.
The bridge shows how railroad connections shaped the area's development during the industrial era. You can still see the craftsmanship of the original metalwork when you walk across it.
You can find the bridge where Virginia State Route 646 crosses the railroad line. The best view of the structure is from the roadside, where the original metalwork is clearly visible.
The original iron from 1882 has survived more than a century without replacement, showing the durability of 19th-century metalwork. Few people notice that this structure still carries traffic exactly as it was built.
