Locusts on Hudson, Historic estate and wedding venue in Staatsburg, United States
Locusts on Hudson is a historic estate on a 76-acre property in the Hudson River Valley region. The main building is a Neo-Baroque manor with several grey and white barns, set within extensive gardens that slope down toward the river valley.
The estate was named in 1797 for the black locust trees growing on the grounds and came into the hands of Supreme Court Associate Justice Henry Brockholst Livingston after the American Revolution. In the 20th century, it became known for hosting musical gatherings when owned by Helen Dinsmore Huntington.
The property takes its name from the black locust trees that once dominated the landscape. Visitors can still sense the historical connection between the grounds and the trees that inspired its original designation.
The property can host up to 250 guests and offers 11 bedrooms for about 21 people. The grounds include a heated pool, tennis court, and hiking paths that allow for exploring the expansive terrain.
The estate houses an 1869 landscape painting by Albert Bierstadt titled 'Among the Sierra Nevada Mountains', which was mounted directly onto an interior wall in an unusual way. The work was removed from its frame and attached to the wall, a rare treatment for a piece of such significance.
