Hartford Times Building, Newspaper headquarters building in Hartford, United States
The Hartford Times Building is a Beaux-Arts structure completed in 1920 that features green granite columns and a recessed porch decorated with allegorical scenes. The facade is anchored by six green granite pillars at the entrance that convey classical elegance.
The structure was completed in 1920 under architect Donn Barber's design and served as headquarters for the Hartford Times newspaper. The publication closed in 1976, marking the end of an important local news institution.
The building served as a platform for important political moments and hosted public speeches that shaped community life in the city. Its entrance became a gathering point where leaders connected with residents.
The building is now part of the University of Connecticut campus and underwent extensive renovation work completed in 2017. Visitors can explore the exterior and entrance area to view the architectural details up close.
The six green granite columns at the entrance were salvaged from a demolished Presbyterian Church in New York, giving the building an unexpected historical connection. These recycled architectural elements tell a story of urban transformation and resourcefulness.
