The statue, inaugurated in 1868 by President Andrew Johnson and multiple military generals, stands as the oldest remaining Lincoln memorial in the nation.
The sculpture maintains its position near Ford's Theatre, connecting the memorial to the location of President Lincoln's assassination in April 1865.
The statue remains accessible to visitors at the United States District Court building, allowing observation of the detailed craftsmanship by Irish artist Lot Flannery.
Washington residents contributed through donations to fund this 25,000-dollar memorial, demonstrating the local community's dedication to Lincoln's memory.
