Confederate Private Monument, Bronze soldier monument in Centennial Park, Nashville, United States.
The Confederate Private Monument is a bronze figure of a soldier in uniform, seated on a rough stone pedestal and holding a rifle in Centennial Park. The sculpture depicts the soldier in a typical military position on his base.
The Frank Cheatham Bivouac commissioned sculptor George Julian Zolnay in 1903 to create this memorial, which received its official dedication in June 1909. The work was completed during a period when such monuments were being erected across the country.
The monument includes a plaque listing members of the Frank Cheatham Bivouac, preserving names of both living and deceased veterans from Tennessee. This inscription serves as a record for visitors to see today.
The sculpture sits near the center of Centennial Park and is easy to locate as part of Nashville's public art collection. The park itself is fully walkable and provides access to other nearby attractions.
The monument was financed through multiple sources, including a 500 dollar donation from the sculptor Zolnay himself. This personal financial contribution reflects the artist's commitment to the project.
