312 RiverRun, Chicago public park under construction
The 312 RiverRun is a walking and biking path in Chicago along the Chicago River that stretches for approximately two miles. It connects three parks and passes by trees, benches, and various bridges that cross the river.
The project began in 2017 with the goal of creating a continuous route for pedestrians and cyclists along the riverfront. The first section opened in late 2019, and the entire route was completed in 2021.
The trail takes its name from its route alongside the river and serves as a connector between different neighborhoods. It has become a gathering place where locals of all ages come to exercise, socialize, and spend time away from the busy streets.
The path is well-marked and easy to follow, with benches to rest at various points. It is easily accessible during warmer months, though winter weather with snow can limit its use.
The project was made possible through collaboration with several organizations, including the Federal Highway Administration, and was part of a larger plan to make Chicago's riverfront more accessible. Its completion was celebrated in 2021 with an official event that drew many visitors.
