Mount St. Mary's Hospital

Mount St. Mary's Hospital is a large red brick structure with a prominent nine-story central tower and matching five-story wings connected by substantial corridors across its limestone base. The building features classical architectural details including Ionic columns and evenly spaced windows that create a formal appearance.

The building was constructed between 1912 and 1914 following the Neoclassical Revival style popular in America at that time. After closing as a hospital in 1965, it was converted into a nursing care facility.

The hospital building displays institutional architecture with Ionic columns, full entablature, limestone belt coursing, and repetitive fenestration patterns throughout its structure.

The location is accessible by public pathways and sits within an area of older residential and institutional architecture. Visitors should keep in mind the building is now in private use and is best viewed from the exterior.

The structure includes landscaped courtyards nestled between its wings, creating a park-like setting. These outdoor spaces originally provided patients with a calm retreat within the urban surroundings.
