United Office Building

The United Office Building is a 20-story Art Deco tower with a steel frame, brick walls, and terra cotta ornamentation across its facade. Today it operates as The Giacomo and contains apartments, office spaces, and hotel rooms.

Built in 1929 by architect James A. Johnson, the structure originally served as a commercial center for the city. Following its decline in the 1980s and extended vacancy, it underwent major renovation in 2010.

The building displays Mayan Revival elements with pink granite reliefs depicting Mesoamerican figures. This unusual architectural choice gives the structure a distinctive visual character that stands out to anyone passing by.

The building is now accessible to visitors since it contains hotel rooms, apartments, and offices. It's worth viewing the exterior to appreciate the decorated terra cotta details and granite reliefs on the facade.

From 1929 to 2005, it was the tallest structure in the city before the Seneca Niagara Casino overtook it in height. This long span shows how dominant the building remained over the city's skyline for generations.
