Cave of the Winds, Natural waterfall attraction at Niagara Falls State Park, US.
Cave of the Winds is a network of wooden walkways set roughly 53 meters (175 feet) deep in the Niagara Gorge near Bridal Veil Falls. The platforms guide visitors through several levels along the rock face to viewing points directly beside the falling water.
The original natural cave collapsed in the early 20th century, but the name remained. In the decades that followed, a new concept emerged with observation platforms rebuilt each spring.
Guests receive a yellow poncho that becomes a familiar marker of this experience throughout the tour. The wooden decks bring visitors close enough that spray and mist would drench clothing without protection.
Access to the attraction is available from May through October, while a shorter gorge route remains open during winter months. Visitors should expect to get wet even though rain gear is provided.
Visitors descend into the gorge by elevator carved through solid rock, dropping roughly 50 meters (165 feet). At the bottom, the door opens directly onto the first wooden platform where spray is already felt.
