Clifton Hill, Entertainment district in Niagara Falls, Canada

Clifton Hill is a street in Niagara Falls, Ontario, running from River Road on the Niagara Parkway to Victoria Avenue. It rises from the river side past gift shops, wax museums, haunted houses, video arcades, restaurants and hotels. The Niagara SkyWheel and the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum stand along it, and the Great Canadian Midway arcade anchors the lower stretch.

The street transformed from a residential neighborhood in the early 1900s into a major entertainment hub, driven by the growing numbers of people visiting Niagara Falls. This shift happened as tourism in the region expanded and gained momentum.

Louis Tussaud's Waxworks, opened in 1949, was the first wax museum in Niagara Falls; its Clifton Hill site closed in September 2000 and it reopened on Victoria Avenue. Movieland Wax Museum displays film, music and television celebrities, and the Rock Legends Wax Museum covers 20th- and 21st-century music figures. Several museums let visitors pose with the figures or sit in an electric chair.

Clifton Hill runs from River Road on the Niagara Parkway up to Victoria Avenue, so start at the river end and climb toward Victoria. The slope is steep and the sidewalks are crowded in summer evenings; the street is a short walk from the falls themselves.

Here you find one of North America's rare go-kart tracks that rises high above ground, running three stories up from street level. This elevated racing course gives drivers an unusual view while racing.
