Clifton Hotel, Historic hotel near Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
Clifton Hotel was a five-story building with 270 rooms located near Niagara Falls. It featured modern conveniences including telephone service, running water, and electric lighting throughout.
The first Clifton Hotel burned down in 1898, after which a second building was constructed. This later hosted diplomats during the 1914 Peace Conference and received royal guests including King George V.
The hotel site transformed into Oakes Garden Theater in 1937, marking a shift from hospitality to public entertainment spaces in Niagara Falls.
The hotel provided business travelers with long-distance telephone offices, cable services, and telegraph facilities for their needs. Large common areas were designed for social gatherings and meetings.
Both versions of this hotel met the same fate, with the first burning in 1898 and the second in 1932. The second fire caused a million-dollar loss and marked the end of this establishment.
