Terrapin Point, Scenic viewpoint at Niagara Falls State Park, United States
Terrapin Point sits at the western edge of Goat Island and offers direct views of the Horseshoe Falls and the gorge below. The platform features paved walkways, safety railings, and informational signs explaining how the waterfall formed.
The site began as Terrapin Rocks in the 1800s when the Porter brothers built a wooden bridge and observation tower in 1827. The modern platform took shape after unstable rock formations were removed to improve visitor safety.
The observation area draws visitors from around the world who gather here to experience the raw power of Niagara Falls together and feel its overwhelming force.
The viewpoint opens year-round and is easy to reach via Goat Island with clearly marked paths throughout. Stay near the railings and watch for slippery surfaces, especially during wet weather or when mist from the falls is heavy.
The platform rests on solid foundations anchored after a major stabilization project in the 1980s that addressed erosion problems in the underlying rock. This work allowed visitors to stand closer to the edge than ever before and experience a more immediate view of the falls.
