Three Sisters Islands, River islands in Niagara Falls State Park, US
Three Sisters Islands consist of several connected landmasses situated east of Horseshoe Falls along the southeast side of Goat Island. These islands are reached by walking bridges and provide views of the upper rapids before the water drops toward the falls.
These islands first gained attention when General Parkhurst Whitney and his daughters crossed to the third island during an ice formation. The name later developed from this family connection to the site.
The Iroquois people held ceremonies on these islands to honor He-No, a spirit they believed inhabited a cave near the falls. These spiritual practices shaped the site's meaning for local communities over many generations.
Access is via bridges from neighboring Goat Island, making it easy to explore the entire site. Visiting early in the day offers the best experience when crowds are lighter.
The islands were originally called Moss Islands because rocks were densely covered with moss. This natural feature shaped the appearance of the site for many years.
