Cave of the Winds, Natural waterfall observation deck in Niagara Falls, United States.
Cave of the Winds is a visitor attraction with wooden walkways and platforms that lead directly to Bridal Veil Falls. From here, visitors can watch the falling water from up close and feel the power and spray of the cascade.
Tours behind Bridal Veil Falls began in 1841 starting from Goat Island and used a natural cave as the visitor path. A rockfall in 1954 destroyed this cave and changed how the site functioned afterward.
The name comes from a natural cave that once existed behind the falls and drew visitors for generations seeking this geological wonder. Today visitors can connect with this history as they stand close to the same powerful waters.
The wooden structures are taken down each fall and rebuilt in spring to prevent damage from ice formation. Visitors should wear waterproof clothing and expect to get wet.
The visitor paths are arranged so that you walk from platform to platform completely surrounded by falling water on all sides. This level of immersion in the cascade itself is rare at other waterfall sites around the world.
