Luna Island, River island between American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, New York, US
Luna Island extends 350 feet in length and 130 feet in width, featuring white cedar trees at its southern end and shrubs at the northern section.
The island, initially named Prospect Island, received its current name in the 1800s due to the lunar rainbows visible during full moon nights.
The island serves as an observation point between two major waterfalls, allowing visitors to experience the power of Niagara Falls from different angles.
Pedestrian bridges connect Luna Island to Goat Island, enabling visitors to cross the rapids and access multiple viewing platforms throughout the area.
The island underwent substantial anti-erosion work in 1969 when authorities temporarily stopped water flow to remove loose rocks and stabilize the foundation.
