Goat Island lies between the American Falls and Horseshoe Falls, offering multiple observation points to view both sections of Niagara Falls.
John Stedman established a herd of goats on the island in the late 1700s, leading to the current name after the animals perished in winter.
The island houses a monument to Nikola Tesla, presented by Yugoslavia in 1976, recognizing his contributions to electrical engineering and innovation.
The island perimeter spans 1.5 miles and takes approximately 30 minutes to walk, with parking available from sunrise to sunset.
Natural mist from the waterfalls creates specific conditions on Goat Island that support the growth of native plant species found nowhere else in the region.
