Brooke Mansion, Country house and bed and breakfast in Birdsboro, United States
The Brooke Mansion is a country house with 42 rooms and elaborate interior finishes located in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania. The building contains a grand staircase, stained glass windows, and a circular library with rosewood shelving designed by architect Frank Furness.
The estate was built in 1888 by industrialist Edward Brooke II as a wedding gift for Anne Louise Clingan. Later in the 20th century it served as a nursing home before returning to residential use.
The architecture displays Queen Anne period features with elaborate details like sunburst steel ornaments that reflect the family's wealth. The separate staircases for family and household staff remain visible today and tell the story of the social structure of that era.
The house sits between Lancaster and Valley Forge, with easy proximity to antique markets and walking trails. The area is known for craft shops and farmland, making it suitable for exploring the surroundings on foot.
The house preserves about 95 percent of its original features, including private bathrooms with claw-foot tubs and furnishings from the 1800s. This high level of preservation makes it a rare example of life in this wealthy period.
