Kiser Lake State Park, State park with natural lake in Champaign County, Ohio.
Kiser Lake State Park is a 531-acre preserve centered on a 396-acre lake ringed by rolling terrain, wetland areas, and glacial formations that shape the landscape. The water body and surrounding natural features create a space where recreation and geology intersect.
The park began when John W. Kiser donated his land to Ohio in 1932, establishing the foundation for this protected area. A dam completed in 1939 created the lake, transforming the location into a recreational space.
This land once served as hunting grounds for the Shawnee warrior Tecumseh and witnessed early frontier encounters. Today, visitors experience the place where local history shaped the region and people gather to enjoy the outdoor heritage it preserves.
Multiple boat ramps line about five miles of shoreline, and a marina rents kayaks and canoes during warmer months. The location remains accessible year-round for water activities and shoreline walking.
The lake operates motor-free, making it a rare destination for sailing, paddling, and scuba diving among peaceful waters. This restriction keeps the water surface calm and offers a different experience from motorized recreation areas.
