The Piatt Castles consist of two three-story houses with towers, painted ceilings, and intricate woodwork built during the 1860s and 1870s.
Brothers Donn and Abram Piatt, descendants of French Huguenots, constructed Mac-O-Chee and Mac-A-Cheek castles after their family settled in Logan County in 1828.
Mac-A-Cheek Castle functions as a museum displaying historical artifacts and serves as a center for educational programs about local heritage and architecture.
Visitors can take self-guided tours through Mac-A-Cheek Castle from April to October, with extended hours during summer months from 10 am to 5 pm.
The Mac-A-Cheek Foundation maintains the property through a tiered membership system named after trees: Ash, Oak, and Walnut, each offering different benefits.
