The district contains numerous brick buildings constructed in Italianate, Greek Revival, and Queen Anne styles along steep, terraced streets with stone retaining walls.
The initial development of Prospect Hill began with American Revolutionary War veterans, including Dr. Daniel Drake who established a log cabin in the early settlement period.
Senator George H. Pendleton maintained his residence at 559 Liberty Hill, reflecting the neighborhood's status as a preferred location for Cincinnati's prominent citizens.
Property owners in the district can apply for tax credits when undertaking preservation projects to maintain the architectural integrity of their historic structures.
The steep topography necessitated the construction of public stairways instead of traditional streets, creating a network of pedestrian paths throughout the neighborhood.
