Varuna, The Writers' House

The Writers' House accommodates six writers simultaneously in a modernist building with stucco exterior near Jamison Valley in the Blue Mountains region.

Eleanor and Eric Dark constructed the house in 1939, which served as their residence and meeting place for local literary gatherings and community events.

Throughout its residency program, Varuna supports 200 writers annually through fellowships, workshops, and dedicated spaces designed for literary creation and development.

Writers can access the residency program through various pathways including fellowships, with specific application periods and opportunities for alumni to return.

The property maintains Eleanor Dark's original writing desk and studio, connecting current writers to the literary heritage of this national institution.
