Jangalbari Fort, Medieval fort in Kishoreganj District, Bangladesh.
Jangalbari Fort is a medieval fortress in Kishoreganj, Bangladesh, built on raised ground and surrounded by moats on three sides. These moats connect to the Narsunda river system, forming a natural line of defense around the site.
Isa Khan established the fort in 1585 after defeating Raja Lakshman Hazra and chose the site as his second capital. A powerful earthquake in later centuries destroyed most of the structures, leaving only a few buildings standing.
The Isa Khan Mosque, with its three domes, still draws local worshippers every day and remains an active place of prayer. Visitors who walk through the site can see how this building continues to serve the surrounding community.
Visiting during the drier months makes walking around the site much easier since the ground stays firm. The area is open with no clear marked paths, so wear sturdy shoes to manage the uneven terrain.
While the earthquake brought down nearly every structure on the site, the mosque came through without a single crack in its walls. This contrast between total ruin and perfect survival in such close proximity is something visitors often find striking when they walk the grounds.
