Treschhütte, Mountain hut near Gurtnellen, Switzerland
The Treschhütte is a mountain hut located in Fellital valley at 1475 meters elevation, surrounded by peaks of the Glarus Alps in Uri canton. The building provides 32 sleeping spaces including two family rooms and operates from May through October.
The hut began as a wooden shelter operated by mountain guide Johann Josef Tresch-Indergand, which the Swiss Alpine Club Section Am Albis acquired in 1923. A new stone building replaced the original structure in 1947 and continues to serve visitors today.
The hut serves as a gathering place where hikers from the region meet after their daily walks and share experiences in the common rooms. The space reflects how local people connect with and use the surrounding mountains.
The hut is accessible via hiking trails and serves as a good starting point for day walks in the surrounding area. It is advisable to book ahead during the summer season since capacity is limited.
The hut holds the position of being the lowest elevation refuge in the Swiss Alpine Club network, placing it at the heart of easy access routes. This makes it a popular hub where hikers of all levels pass through and connect with the mountain community.
