Bauernhausmuseum Amerang des Bezirks Oberbayern, Agricultural open-air museum in Amerang, Germany.
The Bauernhausmuseum Amerang is an open-air museum with 17 historical buildings spread across 4 hectares of land. The buildings include farmhouses, barns, and outbuildings from the Chiemgau and Rupertiwinkel regions with their typical features and layouts.
The museum documents the development of agriculture from the late 1700s through the 1900s in Upper Bavaria. The buildings were constructed at different periods or relocated here, showing how rural life changed across generations.
Craft techniques such as spinning, felting, and blacksmithing are demonstrated in the workshops where they were historically performed in Upper Bavaria. These activities happen in their original settings and show how people actually worked in their daily lives.
The site is laid out over a large area, so wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time to explore. There is little shade outdoors, so it is wise to arrive early on hot days or bring sun protection.
Many buildings were transported from their original locations around the region and carefully reassembled here. This makes the museum a living archive that brings together and preserves the building traditions of several local styles in one place.
