Anastasiakapelle, Baroque chapel in Benediktbeuern, Germany
Anastasia Chapel sits at the northeast corner of the Basilica, displaying baroque architecture with rococo decorations. Three altars with fine carved details and elaborate ceiling paintings define the interior space.
Construction took place between 1751 and 1753, replacing an earlier chapel from 1606. The new structure was built to house relics of Saint Anastasia that had arrived from Verona centuries before.
The chapel honors Saint Anastasia, a figure associated with healing from head and nerve ailments in local devotion. Visitors can see the ornate ceiling paintings that shaped prayer life and religious practices over centuries.
The chapel is part of Benediktbeuern monastery and can be visited during the monastery's regular opening hours. Access and viewing conditions may be limited due to ongoing maintenance work from recent weather damage.
Local tradition credits the monastery with miraculous protection during the 1704 Spanish Succession War. Strong winds reportedly kept enemy forces at bay, which believers interpreted as the saint's intervention.
