Halbe, municipality in Brandenburg state, Germany
Halbe is a small municipality in Brandenburg's Dahme-Spreewald District. The town spreads across flat terrain with open fields and patches of forest, dotted with modest homes and historic farm buildings.
The municipality was first recorded in 1546 as a small farming settlement. The village suffered severe hardship during 17th-century warfare but gradually recovered during the 1700s.
The flat terrain makes it easy to explore on foot or by bicycle without steep climbs. Local roads connect to nearby towns, and regional train stations provide convenient access from larger cities.
The town is home to Germany's largest inland war cemetery, containing the remains of over 23,000 soldiers from World War II. Established in 1951, it is maintained as a memorial and place of remembrance.
