Cargolifter hangar, Aircraft hangar in Brand-Briesen, Germany
Cargolifter-Luftschiffhalle is a former production hall in Krausnick-Groß Wasserburg near Brand-Briesen, roughly 60 kilometers south of Berlin. The freestanding building measures 360 meters in length, 210 meters in width, and rises 107 meters high, placing it among the largest halls without supporting columns worldwide.
The hall was completed in 2000 for the company CargoLifter AG, which planned to develop cargo airships. After the project collapsed and the company declared bankruptcy in 2002, an investor purchased the site and converted it into a leisure center.
Originally designed for airship production, the hall later served as a backdrop for film shoots and events after the company's collapse. Now it houses a tropical resort that combines the towering interior with artificial palm forests and lagoons.
The site sits just over an hour's drive south of the capital in a sparsely populated area of Lower Lusatia. A visit works well during bad weather, as the facility is fully enclosed and offers a tropical climate.
The structure's framework has no interior support columns and could hold the Eiffel Tower lying down. An integrated floor heating system maintains a year-round indoor temperature of 18 degrees Celsius (64 degrees Fahrenheit).
