Sonderwaffenlager Brand

Sonderwaffenlager Brand was a large military complex in southern Brandenburg featuring thick concrete bunkers with surrounding technical structures designed for operations. The bunkers were built with specialized security features to safely store and manage nuclear weapons.

The facility was established in 1962 to serve as a storage site for nuclear weapons used by Soviet aviation forces during Germany's division. After the Berlin Wall fell and the Cold War ended, the location lost its strategic military purpose.

The location shows how Soviet military forces were present in Brandenburg during the Cold War and shaped daily life in the surrounding communities. The site reflects the security concerns and tensions that defined this era in East Germany.
