The Cuvilliés Theatre features intricate wooden carvings and ornate decorations throughout its red, white, and gold auditorium, reflecting 18th-century architectural excellence.
The theatre, designed by François de Cuvilliés between 1751 and 1755, hosted the first performance of Mozart's opera Idomeneo in 1781.
The preserved wooden fixtures of the auditorium display exceptional craftsmanship through detailed figurative and ornamental decorations in the rocaille style.
The theatre operates from April through July, offering guided tours and performances with free admission for visitors under 18 years old.
During World War II, the theatre's original wooden elements were carefully dismantled and stored, later being reconstructed in the Munich Residence.
