Staatliche Münzsammlung

The State Coin Collection is located within the Munich Residence and displays over 300,000 coins, medals, and banknotes from different periods and regions. The exhibition spreads across several halls, showing pieces that range from ancient times to the modern era.

The collection began in the 16th century under Duke Albert V of Bavaria, who started gathering these pieces. It grew significantly when Charles Theodore later brought together the Palatinate and Bavarian collections into one holding.
