Haus Kliff

Haus Kliff comprises the ruins of a medieval fortification situated on the banks of the Ruhr River in Hattingen. Stone wall remnants from the original structure still stand, revealing the basic layout of what was once a defended complex.

The complex was founded in the 14th century to control an important river crossing and oversee commerce passing through the area. It later served as both a mill facility and administrative center for the surrounding region.

The place served as a regional administrative center where local officials managed affairs for the surrounding area. Daily life revolved around the river's proximity and the economic opportunities it provided.

The site is easily accessible and located directly beside the river. Wear sturdy footwear since the ground is uneven and can become muddy in poor weather.

Excavations in the 2000s uncovered hidden wall foundations and revealed that the complex was larger than previously believed. A well-preserved wooden beam from the original structure is now housed in a local museum.
