Reuchlin-Gymnasium, Secondary educational institution in Ingolstadt, Germany
Reuchlin-Gymnasium is a state secondary school in Ingolstadt offering courses in languages, natural sciences, and technology to students from grade 5 through 12. The main building is a listed architectural monument, extended over the years by additional wings that house subject-specific rooms such as those for music and chemistry.
The school began in 1832 as Latin preparatory classes and became a full gymnasium in 1898 under Prince Regent Luitpold. It is one of the oldest secondary schools in the region, with a long tradition rooted in classical education.
The school takes its name from Johannes Reuchlin, a humanist of the 15th and 16th centuries known for his knowledge of Hebrew and Greek. This connection to language learning is still felt today, with foreign languages playing a central role in daily school life.
The building can be viewed from the outside as a listed architectural monument, and the facade gives a good sense of its historical character. Since this is an active school, access to the interior is generally not possible, so any visit is best kept to the exterior during off-school hours.
In 2022, the school became the first certified cultural gymnasium in Bavaria, a status no other school in the state held at the time. This recognition highlights how artistic and cultural activities are woven into everyday school life rather than treated as optional extras.
