The Romanisches Haus features robust stone walls, high ceilings, and Romanesque architectural elements spread across two levels measuring 31 meters in length.
Dating from the second half of the 12th century, this structure belonged to the economic complex of the Cistercian Monastery of Pforta and stands as Central Germany's oldest secular building.
The museum displays exhibits about Bad Kösen's urban development, salt production technology, and the history of the Monastery of Pforta through permanent collections.
The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday and public holidays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with guided tours available by contacting +49 34463 27668.
The upper floor houses 250 dolls created by local artist Käthe Kruse, alongside a sculpture garden featuring medieval and contemporary art pieces.
