Landesweingut Kloster Pforta

Landesweingut Kloster Pforta is a winery in the Saale-Unstrut region that operates vineyards on slopes surrounding the historic monastery building. The estate produces wines from local varieties like Riesling and Pinot Blanc, and visitors can explore the collection in the former monastery gatehouse where regional products such as apple juice and honey are also sold.

Cistercian monks began wine production here in 1138 and established a tradition that lasted for centuries. The present-day winery was founded in 1952 and continues this practice on state-owned land.

The place carries the name of the monastery that stood here from the 12th century and shaped the region's wine culture. Today visitors can see how this monastic tradition remains visible in the carefully maintained vineyards and the monastery buildings themselves.

The Vinothek is located in the former monastery gatehouse and is the best place to taste and purchase wines. It makes sense to check opening hours in advance, as this is a specialized venue rather than a standard shop.

The Koeppelberg vineyard is first documented in 1147 and preserves rare grape varieties like Blue Silvaner and Elbling that date back to the monastic period. These old varieties are difficult to find elsewhere today and make this plot a living archive of medieval wine culture.
