Riemer Park

Riemer Park is a large recreational park in Messestadt Riem with an artificial lake and many trees covering the grounds. The space offers sports facilities, play areas, and two hills that serve as sledding slopes when snow arrives.

The park was built between 1997 and 2005 on the site of the former Munich-Riem Airport. This transformation of an airfield into a public recreation space shows how urban land can be repurposed.

The park was designed by French landscape architect Gilles Vexlard using geometric patterns that create distinctive visual features. This design approach shapes how visitors move through and experience the space.

The park is laid out across a wide area and can be explored on foot or by bike. Visitors should wear suitable footwear, as some terrain can be uneven or sloped.

Once a year, long-distance runners gather here for a midnight race under the stars. This event brings attention to the park as a sporting destination within the city.
