St. Kolumba, Cologne

The museum building incorporates perforated gray brick walls that wrap around the remains of the former St. Kolumba church and chapel.

Originally constructed in 980 as a small Romanesque church, St. Kolumba expanded into a five-nave Gothic structure before its destruction during World War II.

The museum displays a collection spanning from Late Antiquity to modern times, including paintings, sculptures, and religious artifacts without descriptive text panels.

The exhibition spaces feature sixteen rooms with varying natural light conditions, limestone floors, and thoughtfully arranged artworks for visitor exploration.

The building combines medieval church ruins, a 1950s chapel, and contemporary architecture through precisely engineered perforations that create filtered natural light patterns.
