Museum Großauheim

Museum Großauheim occupies a former power station and bathhouse, displaying steam engines and regional industrial objects across 1300 square meters. The building itself is a remnant of the area's industrial past and houses both technical equipment and artworks by local creators.

The museum was established in 1983 and underwent major renovation work between 2010 and 2011 to improve its display of steam machinery and artworks. These renovations became necessary to modernize the exhibitions and restore the historic building itself.

The museum displays works by sculptor August Gaul, who was born in Großauheim, and features pieces by artist August Peukert that engage with social themes. Both artists share deep connections to this place and their work reflects the local identity.

The museum welcomes visitors on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with ground-floor areas accessible to people with mobility limitations. It makes sense to confirm opening times before visiting and to dress appropriately for indoor temperatures in an older industrial building.

A sound installation by Erwin Stache transforms machinery noise into musical compositions through interactive control dials. Visitors can experiment with the installation to discover how ordinary industrial sounds become artistic creations.
