The museum opened in 1983 and underwent extensive renovations between 2010 and 2011 to enhance its exhibitions of steam-powered equipment and local artists' works.
The museum exhibits works by Großauheim-born sculptor August Gaul and features social commentary pieces by artist August Peukert in dedicated gallery sections.
The museum welcomes visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 to 17:00, with the ground floor providing access for people with mobility requirements.
Visitors can interact with a sound installation by Erwin Stache that transforms machinery noises into musical compositions through control dials.
