Silkebuche, Natural monument near Groß Schönebeck, Germany
Silkebuche was an ancient beech tree standing in the forests of Eichheide within Barnim District, recognized as a significant natural monument. The tree reached heights of about 19 meters and was notable for its exceptionally thick trunk.
The beech was planted around 1760 and thrived for more than 260 years until its collapse occurred between July and August 2021. Throughout its long existence, it served as a living record of the region's natural history.
The Silkebuche holds importance within the Barnim Nature Park, where forests occupy 55 percent of the protected area's total surface.
