Gasthaus Zur Goldenen Krone

The Gasthaus Zur Goldenen Krone is a protected heritage building in Darmstadt featuring stone block rustication on its ground floor and decorative carved faces above windows and doors. The structure combines ornamental design with solid construction that has endured for centuries.

The building was originally constructed in 1681 using half-timbered techniques and received a completely new facade in 1890 in the early historicism style. This transformation fundamentally changed its appearance while preserving the structure underneath.

The building displays artistic details such as keystones carved by sculptor Wagner in 1894 and a wrought-iron lantern bracket featuring a crown coat of arms. These decorative elements shape how the structure appears today and make it a visual landmark on the street.

The inn is located at Schustergasse 18 and continues to function as a tavern while maintaining its status as a protected heritage site. Visitors can explore the building from the outside and observe its preserved architectural details.

The German band BAP held their first performance here with guitarist Klaus Heuser in 1980, earning him the nickname 'Major'. This musical event connects the inn to the local rock music history.
