The Kollegiatstift St. Johann features a hall-style church with polygonal choir, integrating both medieval and baroque architectural elements throughout its structure.
Founded in 1127 by Bishop Konrad I, the institution started as an Augustinian monastery and transformed into a collegiate church around 1290, maintaining continuous operation.
The church maintains daily services at 8:00 AM and houses a restored Eisenbarth organ with 25 registers, supporting regular performances of classical vocal polyphony.
The Stiftskirche will undergo renovations from January 2024 until spring 2026, with administrative offices remaining open at Viereimergasse 1 in Regensburg.
This institution represents one of only four remaining collegiate churches in Bavaria, surviving the 1803 secularization period when most religious properties were dissolved.
