Regensburg Cathedral, Gothic cathedral in Regensburg, Germany.
Regensburg Cathedral is a Gothic cathedral in Regensburg, Germany, with two towers that rise 105 meters into the sky. The nave extends over 86 meters and is divided into three aisles supported by strong buttresses.
Construction began in 1275 after a fire destroyed the earlier church, and the main building phase lasted until 1520. The work then stopped for centuries and resumed only in the 19th century with the completion of the towers.
The boys' choir performs during Sunday Mass and keeps a singing tradition alive that reaches back to medieval times. Visitors hear the voices during service and experience a performance practice that has been part of the cathedral's life for centuries.
Guided tours take place Monday through Friday at 12:30 and on weekends at 14:30, with access to the cloister included. The visit covers the interior and offers a chance to see the architecture up close.
The windows preserve thousands of colored glass pieces from medieval times and form the largest collection of their kind in German-speaking countries. The light passing through the old panes creates shifting color patterns inside that change with the time of day.
